Visual Basic 6 - Intermediate

This 4 day course extends your skills as developer using Microsoft Visual Basic version 6, and Object oriented programming methodology. The course is biased towards developers of Client/Server database applications using the 3 tier architecture. The core of this course explores and teaches students how to access and manipulate relational database servers such as Oracle, Informix, and SQL Server, in addition to ISAM Databases such as Access.

  • Constructing Classes: Using Code and /or the Class Builder Utility
  • Building you own ActiveX Components (Servers) -DLL's, EXE's, Controls
  • Guidelines for Constructing Business Objects using ActiveX Components
  • Visual basic data Access Technologies and options explored: ADO, DAO, RDO
  • Microsoft's Universal Data Access - OLEDB and ADO
  • ActiveX Data Objects - ADO using OLEDB
  • Data Bound ActiveX custom controls (Database aware controls)
  • Introduction to the DBGRID and MSHFLEXGRID Controls
  • Deploying VB Applications - Package and Deployment Wizard
  • Overview of Windows API Calls & DLL's
Prerequisites:
  1. Experience using Visual Basic version 4,5or 6 at a fundamental skill level,
  2. Experience using any Windows based Applications such as Word, or Excel
  3. Basic Knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language) and Access
  4. Knowledge of a database server is advantageous (Informix, Oracle, or SQL Server)
  5. An understanding of object oriented programming concepts is an advantage
  6. Understanding of basic PC Networking
